Black Country Gets Celebrity Support in Bid for Lotto Cash
6/12/2007The Black Country Urban Park received a big name celebrity endorsement today with TV’s Michelle Collins publicly backing the bid. The Big Lottery Fund has named the Urban Park as one of four schemes that will battle for public votes from 7th to 10th December by telephone and via the Internet. ‘The People’s £50 million Contest’ programmes are being screened this week on ITV.
TV's Michelle Collins said “All these projects are very worthy, but the Black Country Urban Park will get my vote for 2 big reasons. Firstly it will mean that 800,000 people will be a 15-minute walk away from safe and attractive green spaces, as a mother I know how important that is . Secondly it will save one of the world’s most important geological features, the limestone caverns at Wren’s Nest, allowing 400 million years of geology to be explained and show how the Black Country became the ‘workshop of the world’.”
Michelle was persuaded to support the Black Country bid by local Euro- MP Michael Cashman who said” This bid will raise the living standards of 100,000 children. On December 7th I would urge everyone to stand up for the Black Country"
