Schools Stand Up for the Black Country

Students from the Black Country are standing ‘UP’ for their region by voting for its bid to win £50 million of lottery funding.
Year 7 and 8 pupils from Dartmouth High School in Great Barr turned out today to cheer on the Urban Park project, which will create the equivalent of 1,000 football pitches of green space across Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Walsall.
Chris Lomax, assistant headteacher at Dartmouth High, said: “The Urban Park bid is a fantastic project that will bring about positive and much needed change to the Black Country.
“We’ve been encouraging all the pupils at our school to vote and are keeping our fingers crossed for next Wednesday!”
The £50 million grant is to be given to one of four prestigious projects by The Big Lottery Fund and will be decided by internet and telephone voting.
A programme about the Black Country bid will be screened on ITV tonight at 11pm, called ‘The People’s £50 million Contest’.
Telephone voting starts at 9am tomorrow when the Big Lottery Fund will announce the phone number to call. Online voting is already under way, at www.thepeoplesmillions.co.uk
All voting will close at 12noon on Monday (10 December) and the results will be announced on Wednesday 12 December.
