sophie - 10 December 2007
I love the Black Country!
Cathcart - 10 December 2007
I Married my lovely Wife in the Singing caverns 18 months ago. A truly magical experience. To improve on the feature will be extremely hard but I do hope it comes to fruition. All the very best of luck.
Phartycr0c - 10 December 2007
I have seen photo's of the caverns from before they were filled in and they look superb. I have also visited Singing Cavern that the trips run into. It is awe inspiring and you need to see it to do it any sort of justice at all.

The Black Country has great people, character, history, and is the future with the Urban Park.

We visited the Seven Sisters at Wrens Nest Nature Park which was opened temporarily for a preview of an amazing project. These caves will put the other projects in the shade! They definitely get the support of our family.
BOSTINBEV - 10 December 2007
While the people of the Black Country deserve your support for this project,it is not just for them that you should vote for it but for the whole country because of the heritage and history (400 million years in the geology as well as the industrial revolution) which means that it will be a visitors attraction second to none. The Black Country is certainly the cradle of the industrial revolution, but did you know that Lichfield was the lifeblood of the Black Country? How? By supplying clean water via Walsall to combat disease in the unhealthy conditions that prevailed in the Black Country. Coal to power the steam pumps came to Lichfield via the canal network that would be revitalised as part of this Lottery bid. The South Staffordshire Water Company was set up in Lichfield to manage this vital water supply, and exists as part of Severn Trent to this day.
David_Dundas - 10 December 2007
My husband "legged it through the tunnel" you really have to visit this place, this project must be the most important one, IT MUST GET THROUGH!!!come on vote now

Black Country born and bred. This area of England, the cradle of the Industrial Revolution, has given two centuries of service to the United Kingdom. With the passing of heavy industry it deserves the support of the nation in creating a source of new wealth.
ydrog123 - 9 December 2007
I was raised in the Balck Country it would be great to see this project get picked. It would create many needed jobs for locals... Good Luck
skylawest - 9 December 2007
The Black Country is one of the most diverse, culturally-rich and historically proud places in the UK. Its accent is distinct, its industry is the earth-mother of the industrial revolution and its people hearts burn with a passion like the furnaces of the foundries of days gone by. When it comes to getting support, this area is crying out to be rescued from sliding further into social and environmental disarray and its people are united in fighting forth to make our Black Country all she can be - a safer place, a greener place, and the place our children want to be in the future, to carry forth the Black Country traditons, values and spirit. Vote for us...
katy_jay - 9 December 2007
Im 62,and have lived in the Pleck, nearly all my life. The area has become very run down, and it seems the Black Country gets a bad deal, when money is being handed out. To get this money, would give the area a boost, and in turn would give us something to be proud of. So come on you people of the Black Country, get voting instead of moaning. Sid Allen
sidallen - 8 December 2007
I remember going fossil hunting in and around the caves of the area as a child, it is a shame to see these places becoming cordoned off and the area in general being so dilapidated and run down. There is a beautiful place underneath the decay. As other pledger's have mentioned, the area has been sorely neglected in comparison to other areas and home nations. This money would be a great boon in that we can at the same time remember and move on from our industrial past, culturally and economically. After the "economic miracle" of Birmingham City center, it's about time the Black Country was given a chance at success.
Sircyn - 8 December 2007
sidallen - 8 December 2007
I grew up in Darlaston, but now live very close to Nottingham. I know that Sherwood Forest is also bidding for the money, but once you have lived and breathed the air in the Black Country it is inside of you for life. I am prode to call my self a Black Country Lad. When ever people tell me I'm a Brummie, I say no way I'm from the Black Country. I hope that the money goes to you.
arabrab - 8 December 2007
Its about time some money was given to this country, as a country who seems to give give give, its about time we got the chance to rebuild the local communities
Jimmywhelan - 8 December 2007
i live in the black country and always will. it's about time something was put back into it!!!
sarah cleaver - 8 December 2007
Living right on top of the heart of this project, I have to admit that I'm excited about this project. It would bring countless advantages and much needed "PRIDE" again to this area. It has been too long. Make your vote count.... VOTE BLACK COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starved of investment in the 70's & 80's whilst Wales, Scotland, the North & Cornwall benefited from massive regional aid grants...Similarly overlooked by the Media unless seeking more Bennies (& they're Brummies, not us!)...Grab this opportunity for national recognition of our past, investment in the present & our rediscovery in the future!

Although I dont live in the Black Country, as a child growing up in the Midlands it has played an important part, especially the Black Country Museum! I have lost track of the number of times I have been down the mines and it would be criminal if people for years to come dont get to experience the same. Now I work in and around the West Midlands I would love to see it improved for generations to see. So please give all your support!!

Living in the Black Country now, we have a rich historical heritage which needs to be cherished. We also have a large amount of green areas which need protecting and this project will help us do so and enable us to feel prouder of the area we live in. We are the centre of England but seem to get bypassed for most things and it is about time the country supported us as we support it.

Like many other of the least well off communities all over the UK the Black Country people are the ones who've put most in to the Lottery. This is the chance for the Lottery to put something back. Of the four projects, they're the ones who need this most. And they're asking only for a fair share.

I am a Black Country man from Bilston and proud of my heritage and of Black Country folk and all that they have contributed to not just Britain but the rest of the world over the years.By encouraging visitors to the area the Black Country Urban Park would provide opportunities to spread the story of the Black Country and it's wonderful folk and how they helped shape history.
kevin.nash - 7 December 2007
For more than 200years my family worked on the canals of the black country and we have watched things decay to the state they are today. With the £50 million from the lottery this decay can be reversed and the people of the black country wil have a massive boost in an area devastated by the loss of manufacturing jobs. Vote Black Country!!!!
AndyMatthews - 7 December 2007
Come on Black Country we are proud people and we should all get together an make sure we win this money we definately need it to show what wonderful heritage we have here. We also have famous people from here to. Black Country and so proud of it
An anonymous supporter - 7 December 2007
More than 100 years ago my grandfather was a young shoeing blacksmith on the railways and canals of Wolverhampton. He retired disabled, poor but proud as the last blacksmith to work for West Bromwich Corporation. Like so many others who still live here, I am proud that it was my ancestors who built the canals, who toiled in the mines, who laboured in the foundries and who once made the Black Country ‘the Workshop of the World’. This Lottery bid is about the 200year story of the sacrifice and heroism of all these working people and the extraordinary place they created. And I’m also proud of my sons. I want them to continue to want to live and work here, and to see a future for their own children here in the years to come. But the Black Country today has been ravaged by industrial decline. Not only is much of our greatest industrial heritage now hidden or neglected but so many of our precious natural green spaces remain inaccessible or unsafe. This bid will begin the process of changing that - a process that will continue for as long as it takes to transform our environment for all our communities - creating space to breathe, to enjoy and play in for the children and families of working people today and in the future. We’re not asking for a hand out. It’s not our way. We’ll do the work ourselves. Hundreds of local community groups, thousands of volunteers, hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren will be actively involved. Just like the miners and their young sons in the mines, like the women chainmakers and their daughters working from home, like those who came from other countries to help us build the railways and dig the canals, all generations and cultures are ready to pick up our tools again and work together with pride.

This is such a fantastic opportunity for the Black Country, I am defintely voting and will be getting friends and family to do the same! Come on Black Country we can win this! every vote counts.
An anonymous supporter - 7 December 2007
The Black Country project gets my vote. The area is full of warm, friendly people who are full of character and energy. To win the competition will bring more than money - it will bring belief and encouragment to an area of the UK that has given so much to the UK and the world over many years, yet which has not been given the investment that other areas and projects have already received. So come on everyone - its time to Stand Up - and Vote for the Black Country Urban Park. Your vote will mean more here. Thank you.

This is our chance to show off to the nation our rich and fascinating heritage. This may be our only chance to develop not only the historic caverns but to open up our local canals and green spaces making them cleaner and safer for everyone to enjoy. All of the other projects have merit but this is our time! Vote Black Country! Mel & M, Dudley
melandem - 5 December 2007
an amazing part of the country - not necessarily a beautiful part - but one that is central to the history of this country - if not world - remember, the black country is where the money, wealth and know how which enabled the empire came from!!
abuddhist - 5 December 2007
I have walked around the streets of the wrens nest for nearley 26 years and never new of the extent of the caverns. Last month I took the famaly to have a look, it was just a mess so let's clean it up and open those wonderfull caves again it would be a sin to let it be undiscoverd by the untold numbers of people tht as yet don't know it is there.
john smart - 5 December 2007
I support this project as I am very passionate about my roots in the Back Country. I'm from Tipton and want the Black Country to be World renowned again as the fore runner to the worlds industry. Roy Webb.

What a fantastic opportunity for the Black Country. Let us celebrate our great heritage and share it with the world at large.
Chatters - 5 December 2007
This project will surely improve the quality of life for many more people than the competition.
abbotsway - 5 December 2007
The Black Country was key to the industrialisation of the world and everyone is connected to that one way or another. The Urban Park project allows us to celebrate this important contribution to the whole world. The basis of the birth of industry is millions of years old in the rocks of the prehistoric periods, and in the caverns we can all see this. Let's get behind this project and win the Lottery for everyone in the great Black Country.
AG Webb - 4 December 2007
I pledge my support for the Black Country Project.Dudley is full of history it needs to be kept alive.
An anonymous supporter - 4 December 2007
The Black Country really needs something to shout about and this park will bring this and many other advantages to the area. The streets are not as safe as they used to be and this will stop the local children playing in unsafe roads. It will provide space for leisure activities and will preserve the Black Country's beauty.
gingersrock - 4 December 2007
I support in full the bid for the Black Country
An anonymous supporter - 4 December 2007
I spent many hours in the Seven Sisters as a teenager and would like to see them opened up again for the present generation to enjoy.
Fjohn - 4 December 2007
This investment will provide a unique opportunity to develop a new attraction rather than expand existing attractions further. The footage on BBC News last week revealed what a stunning site this is.
SMEdwards - 4 December 2007
I live a mile from Wrens Nest and would welcome the chance to see what is underground. It is close to Dudley Zoo and the Black Country Museum and would create a fantastic tourist attraction. The Black Country is no longer black and has many places of interest quite close to visit. Countryside is within five miles of Dudley and we are close to the motorway network. There is a lot of history in the area and we should promote it all as a package for visitors.
An anonymous supporter - 4 December 2007
As a local councillor I am pleased to support the bid by the Black Country. It will help to transform the area and attract other investment which will make it an even greater place to be in a few years time.
mdf273 - 4 December 2007
I am Black Country born, bred and educated all within 2 miles of this heritage site. The impact that this place has had on the world, in terms of its industrial heritage, cannot be underestimated and cannot be allowed to go unremembered. The area has been, and still is, seriously underfunded. We must win this money. I urge you to vote. The people in this area deserve the improvements that the money will bring and visitors will be rewarded with a great experience.
mickphipps - 4 December 2007
On behalf of Wednesbury Hockey Club the whole mebership pledges its support to the wonderful Black Country project. Green spaces, caverns, the creation of a huge park right where we live. Come on the Black Country this is richly deserved.
An anonymous supporter - 4 December 2007
I am born and bred Black Country and I love the area. It is time for us all to show the whole world what we have to offer. Millions of years of geology, hundreds of years of history - the birthplace of modern industry. Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, Wolverhampton - back the bid and make it real. Lynda Webb

I regularly enjoy the walks around the wrens nest woodland. However, the many trails that are blocked by fencing have me growing evermor e curious as to what lurks beyond or should i say what lurks beneath! come on get them open, my father remembers them , i want to see them along with my children. The suspense is killing me! so tell one and all to get voting.

An Urban Park will attract many visitor and will show the contribution the Black Country and surrounding Midlands area's had on the industrial development of Britain. A place to be very proud of.
An anonymous supporter - 4 December 2007
The black country was black because of all the fuel for the industrial revolution and the empire, about time that we put something back, so that future generations know what the black country did for us all

Regular visitor to Leasowes Park. The Warden alerted us to activities in the area including Wrens nest and the Caverns. We enjoyed a trip from the Black Country Museum and a Hunt the Dudley Bug. History and Nature in this area are important to us.
TMFpd - 3 December 2007
Despite the name the Black Country is NOT grim. In fact it is a wonderful place to live and work. At the centre of the country with very easy access to Birmingham and Wolverhampton and the wider UK transport network it can with the successful People's Lottery win be a world class place of historical interest. This is the cradle of the industrial heritage from which we all benefit from in this modern world. Lifelong resident of the Black Country.
An anonymous supporter - 3 December 2007
JOYS - 3 December 2007
This is a fantastic project that will really help this region while providing an amazing atraction for visitors too. People need to understand that this is a once in a lifetime chance to save the limestone caverns beneath Dudley so that future generations can marvel at the work of our ancesters. If we don't do the work to protect them they will be lost forever. Please don't let this chance slip by - vote Black Country and support this wonderful project.
calymene - 3 December 2007
I'm not from the Black Country but I believe that its history should be preserved. The contribution towards making this country great made by the diversity of industry in the Black Country is a piece of our heritage that should be recognised and not left buried. I sincerely hope to be a visitor to the limestone caverns recently unearthed. Without lottery funding, this excellent project, which will give a return on the investment made, may not become a reality so, vote for the Black Country Urban Park and see the part it played in Britain's history
An anonymous supporter - 3 December 2007
Ask yourself who NEEDS this most? On behalf of all the other communities in greatest need throughout the UK - in the major urban areas and in isolated rural areas – let’s give the Black Country people their chance.

The Black Country can be a pretty grim place to live at times, ANYTHING that can be done to improve our area is definitely worth fighting for. The view from Barr Beacon is fabulous, if only I wasn't too nervous to go up and see it more often due to the number of dodgy looking lads who seem to camp up there at the moment. If you're from the area, you really don't need to think who to vote for. If you're not from the West Mids - please vote for the Black Country project, it will really impact on the daily lives of everyone here!

I've been talking about the Green areas running through the Black Country for Years. Folks don't know what they're missing. This means I'll have to share them. So be it.. Com On Black Country!
pbullox - 30 November 2007
The Black Country was the beating heart of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th Centuries. In the 20th Century it has been ignored by politicians and leaders. It is time to resurrect our proud history and to take our rightful place in the heirarchy of important heritage sites. Let's go for it!
Mikey - C - 30 November 2007
I support the Black Country Urban Park. I live in Handsworth and want to see some support for our area and a more positive image to raise the profile of the area
frantom - 30 November 2007
All Black Country folk need to get behind this project. We're in the heart of England but always seem to get left behind! Come on and vote. It doh cost yow nuthin!

The opening up of the huge caves beneath Dudley will be one of the most prestigious projects in Europe, British engineering at its best. It will also make a major contribution to the science of geology, Dudley is a world famous centre for geological research. I am voting for the Black Country project because it is new, innovative and ground breaking and not an add on to existing development.
GeologyBill - 30 November 2007
For too long other areas of the country have received funding and grants. We now have an oppourtunity to show the nation and the world the true nature of the "Black Country" not the "gray paese and bacon" image often associated with the region. The region needs this project to restore the region as a leader in the country.
Aeroboy - 30 November 2007
I believe that the Black Country is an area that needs a boost and the Black Country Urban Park is just the thing to do it.
lloypj0 - 30 November 2007
Everyone should vote for the black country because it is better than all the other places people are trying to get votes for. The people of the black country like me, would really appreciate what you can do for us. The black country is a big space that people need to do something with. The project in hand will definitley bring some sunshine to people's lives in the area ! The idea is fantastic and people that are left in the dark because this amazing place isn't refurbished will truly miss out on everything it can offer you! (: (: xo

megan - 30 November 2007
I grew up in the Black Country and now travel all over the world for work - but wherever I go I'm reminded of the region's impact on the world thanks to it being the workshop of the industrial revolution. From manhole covers in New York City to lighthouse lenses in New Zealand, the craftsmanship of the area lives on. This project will see the world paying back the Black Country and bringing old and new glories together!
aeh1978 - 30 November 2007
The Black Country Urban Park is vital to the Midlands development and regeneration, as well as preservjng a major part of our industrial history for the furure!!

Hi, I work in the Black Country, Dudley to be precise. The vision of the Black Country bid is awesome in its scope. It will kickstart a transformation that will be 30 years in the making, bringing jobs, wealth, pride and recognition back to the cradle of the industrial revolution. More importantly the project will raise awareness of the wealth of natural beauty to be found hidden in this remarkable area of Britain.
Mark - 28 November 2007
everyone in the black country, should vote for the urban project, as it will open up the magic that lies under wrens nest, what a tourist attraction that will be. VOTE URBAN PARK !!!!
kylie heeks - 28 November 2007
Quite simply, the Black Country deserves to be spruced up a bit :)
charisavery - 28 November 2007
The project will benefit everyone. Let's make it happen lets make a difference.
Doyle - 28 November 2007
I am a third generation of tipton the heart of the black country married to a third generation of dudley and both of us are very supportive of the project we did our courting 34years ago on the seven sisters and the wrens nest we loved going for long walks there my husband played there as a child it would be great for the younger generation we still live in the black country coseley and love it you cannot beat the black country folk for their humour and love of life
scubby555 - 28 November 2007
A really great project - the Black Country is so varied and so much of it hidden. How many people know all about the prehistoric caverns and 400m year old trilobytes at Dudley or the vast parkland of the Sandwell Valley - just minutes from West Bromwich? Not many I expect - this project will really help the Black Country become Green!
alisonknight - 28 November 2007
We live within waling distance of the Wrens Nest Nature Reserve but because the area is so run-down we've never felt inclined to visit. It would be nice to think that somewhere outside London could be given a lift for a change.
An anonymous supporter - 28 November 2007
This is such an exciting time for the Black Country! I am so excited about what this money can bring to our region, and what it will do for future generations. I am a Black Country girl and there are so many places that I have yet to explore, and every time I come across a new area, it amazes me that I have never come across it before, so to open up more places of interest is just mind-blowing...the caves are particularly exciting and so unique so please, please support the Black Country! Tar very much!
Lizloz - 28 November 2007
This is the one project that really is all about community involvement: 300,000 young people, 500 local projects, 60,000 volunteers. It's not about having something done FOR them by architects and councils. It's about communities changing their lives and environment for themselves. - And not just something that'll be all completed within 6 - 12 months, but unparalleled community involvement for the next 5 - 10 years. It's about communities themselves making changes that will benefit the many generations to come. Please please vote for the Black Country!
Jack-o - 28 November 2007
Although I don't live in the Black County this project really appeals to me. The chance to spread the countryside through urban areas whilst at the sametime showcasing how one of our more important areas of industrial development came about is fantastic. This project is worthy of everyones suopport
Robert084 - 28 November 2007
This fantastic development, the creation of job's, the newlook Dudley zoo all helps to build a place to be proud of and live in. Steve C
stevecarr - 28 November 2007
There is a bias of emphasis towards the countryside when it comes to the conservation and enhancement of our natural heritage. The natural world should not be the preserve of a few, for it is the right of all. It worries me that so few people can see, touch, smell and taste the natural world - it is intangible for too many. This project would bring a bit of the wild, a bit of natural heritage, to those who arguably need it most. So bring on the votes, lets see the Black Country get greened.
MichelleOsbourn - 28 November 2007

darren york - 27 November 2007
I work and live in the Black Country, and the green space which surrounds the area is a wonder to behold. To bring the natural beauty into the built up areas would be a fantastic asset to the area helping both the tourism industry, and improving the area for people that live here. Vote Black Country!
Matthew.Weston - 27 November 2007
The Black Country Project would help youngsters to be as proud of their heritage as the older members of our communities. I am an Irishman who was brought up in the black country for most of my life. I am still proud to be part of the Black Counctry and I would like to see places Like Dudley Caverns really opened up to the general public, not only of the Black Country, but to the world in general. There is so much history in the Black Country, it really does rival anywhere in the world; it just needs to reveiled in all its true glory.
An anonymous supporter - 27 November 2007
The preservation of the Black Country's underground history, both natural and industrial is paramount because it is unique. Our Mining Consultancy, Johnson Poole and Bloomer, originated in Dudley in 1844 and we have been associated with the caverns ever since. We are both pleased and proud to support the Black Country bid. I've pledged my support to this project. As a local girl born and raised, I've moved to the North and miss the warmth, humility and genuine passion of Black Country folk. There is a real lack of activity, space for engagement with green spaces and opportunity within this strangely set apart piece of the Midlands, and I think that a project like this will benefit the most people in the most positive way possible.
lofichic - 27 November 2007
I recently met someone from the Black Country, so proud of his roots - I had to vote for you all. Katie

The Black Country is fantastic, but somehow this huge, fascinating, funny, eccentric place is hidden from the rest of the UK. If they weren't so friendly you'd almost think the locals didn't want everybody else to know about it! With this scheme the Black Country's time will come and its people will be able to share their rich heritage and wonderful present with the whole of the Country, before it is lost forever. It will also make life immeasurably better for the million children, women and men who live there, not to mention the wildlife. There is nowhere else like the Black Country, let's protect it and give it a helping hand.
LizMc - 27 November 2007
I moved to the Black Country from Kent after leaving Uni and have settled here. Now I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. It truely is a special place that people from the rest of the UK just don't seem to know about. It throughly deserves investment and a scheme of this nature would be ideal for unlocking the potential of this gem of a place.

To open up the Limestone Caverns in Dudley to all would create a fantastic educational and economic boost to an area that has suffered in recent years. It will highlight the fact that there is no-where quite like the Black Country for its people and historic links.
An anonymous supporter - 27 November 2007
I am very proud to pledge my support for the Black Country Urban Park project. Out of the four projects in the final competition it is clearly the only one which is genuinely in tune with the ideals of the BIG Lottery programme. The project connects the communities of the Black Country and encourages people of all ages to get involved with preserving their environment and their historical heritage. The bold exciting proposals covering the unique limestone caverns, canal network and green space developments across the Black Country urban area deserve the support of people from within the Black Country and throughout the rest of the UK. The only way is UP!
AndyM - 27 November 2007
After walking the streets of the wrens nest for the last 25 years and hearing the stories of what is now hidden there by filling the entrance's in, It is important to get them open again to the public as it is such a sin to to let them be covered up for ever.
john smart - 27 November 2007
Being a Walsall born man, and spending much of my time in the surrounding areas such as Dudley, I whole heartedly cast my vote for the Black Country Urban Park. Over the past 15 years or so, I have seen my loal areas fall into a state of severe decline, although much is now being done to improve that. It should be the duty of everyone living in the Black Country, to take pride in their area, and voting for the Urban Park would be a great way of doing that, so as everyone can enjoy the true treasures and history that the Black Country, 'OUR' Black Country has to offer.
danslow - 27 November 2007
When I first heard about the hidden caverns I was surprised to find out that we had such a treasure on our doorstep. What a crime it would be to lose this historically important place, not just for the black country, but for the world, just because of lack of money.Vote UP!

Having moved to Netherton in the Black Country about 8 months ago, I have been really impressed by the strong sense of community here, and the deep desire to see the area rejuvenated for the future. This project is an exciting venture that will produce immense and lasting benefits across a wide range of activities and for the whole community. I want to encourage everyone to support this project to the full. Stephen Carter - Vicar of Netherton and Darby End

I pledge my support to the Black Country because I spent some time there as a long-term guest, doing an internship at the Planning and Leisure Department within the Football Development Scheme. I am German and I spent one of the best time of my life in the Black Country back than. The people there are great people and they deserve this support of their project, not at least in terms of having been a big motor to British development in the past that just needs a little bit new fuel now. Rudy from Oldenburg
rudrigo - 26 November 2007
The Black Country is crying out for investment and this could be the catalyst to region wide regeneration. Vote now, you know it makes sense
launcher - 26 November 2007
the balck country bid isnt your typical lottery bid,its not something that will fall down or out of vogue in a few years, what it entails is a regions history both recent and ancient being opened up to the population to enjoy.Wouldnt it be nice if places such as dudley and wolverhampton were to win against the usual suspects and for once not to be ignored in respects of our history and culture. ps dont forget without us and our caves and canals there wouldnt have been an industrial revolution,no progress et al no lottery!!!

We have so much to offer in the Black Country that as yet has not been widley advertised or seen. We all need to get behind our local heritage and make it available to everyone.
Mark A - 26 November 2007
A central England project, available for all to see. A chance to see the caverns in their glory, surely a sight unmatched. Couple this with Living Museum/Zoo, and you have an attraction that cannot be matched!
sna - 26 November 2007
This is a great idea - it's practical, achievable, it will last a very long time and makes economic sense. There is so much that the Black Country has to offer but it needs to be given a chance - the region has been neglected big time and there is a great deal of world, let alone local and national heritage that could be brought to life by this project. It's also something that local people can take pride in and use regularly. Please give the chance for the Black Country to breathe again - show the region some attention and it will do the rest itself - you'll not be disappointed vote for the Urban Park!

It would be great for kids growing up to be able to access and experience again these living landmarks. The Urban Park will improve and make links between so many superb parts of the Black Country, and offers so many more ways for a large number of people to enjoy themselves. So spread the word, and don't forget to vote!

Bfranks - 23 November 2007
What a 'bostin' project that could positively impact on the lives of so many in the Black Country. The areas industrial legacy has impacted greatly not only on people's lives but also the landscape and this bid will provide the opportunity to transform some of this legacy into a massive green project that will benefit the Black Country and its residents for many generations. It will provide much needed employment and green spaces and make the Black Country a credible tourist attraction.

An anonymous supporter - 22 November 2007
Black Country Urban Park is by far the most exciting of the four projects and the people in the Black Country deserve support. This project celebrates the our industrial heritage but also helps to 'make ammends' for some of the bad aspects of that heritage for the land and the people. All in all the one out of the four that you can see will have the greatest impact from the £50 Million going in.
brum4thebcp - 22 November 2007

I’m proud to be born and bred in the Black Country. We have a long and interesting heritage. Rich in geology, it naturally became the centre for the industrial revolution, which produced much of Britain’s wealth. Sadly the area is now in decline with a landscape often scarred with old pits and abandoned factories. Despite this we still have areas of outstanding beauty. Few areas in the country can offer so much to visitors. Within easy distances you can find quiet countryside steeped in history, and bustling cities with shops and entertainment. Lets make the Black Country a place to live in and visit with equal pleasure. Place your vote for the Black Country, and don't forget to tell your friends.

The perceptions people have of the Black Country seem to be largely negative, particularly if they do not know the area. I grew up here and apart from 3 years at University have lived here all my life. It deserves the support of the nation to give it the recognition it deserves as the cradle of the industrial revolution and the home of many of the greats of our nation.

Our canals are a wonderful resource, and deserve attention. They are unique and irreplaceable and yet we neglect them and allow them to be deastated by short sighted commercial projects. We should increase their profile to emphasise the positive impact on particularly urban residents quality of life that they can provide, because they are acessible to even the more immobile socially deprived children and adults in the UK. We say we are a developed country, why not try acting like one and fund this project.

What an amazing plan. The Black Country has been instrumental in the growth of Britain and what a great way to show its contribution to our history and future by combining a nature reserve and access to spectacular caves. I'll be voting and I hope that others will too. Come on the West Midlands and get behind this plan-it's time to show the rest of the country and the world what we are made of...

The Black Country is a completely overlooked area of the country and home to some great people. Its about time it was helped to improve.
hellisforheroes - 15 November 2007
I was born and raised in Bradley and Coseley, and believe that this project could breathe new life into the area. It's a sin that Wren's Nest has not received more attention and I honestly believe that the regeneration of the canals could also alleviate road transport problems. In the Black Country you are never far from a canal! The Eden project and Sherwood Forest already enjoy worldwide renown and it's about time the Black Country enjoys the same. Abraham Darby would be proud! Good luck BC, I'll be voting!
turtongormley - 14 November 2007
One reason to support the bid is the fact that the 200th anniversary of the death of John Wilkinson (Iron Mad Wilkinson) occurs on 14th July 2008. He died in Bradley, Bilston. James Watt built the world's first rotative steam engines for use at his Bradley blast furnaces. What a 200th Anniversary party we would have if we won the bid!! People are forgetting our proud history. Let's protect and enjoy what we have left of our industrial legacy and share it proudly with the world. C'mon Black Country!!!
John G - 14 November 2007

The caves are aweinspiring on a scale larger than the famous Wookey Holes and when made safe will be one of the great visitor features of this country. I am getting all my friends to vote. I am a conservation volunteer on the Kings Norton Nature Reserve and I feel that it is time for the Midlands to receive some financial aid.
microsteam - 12 November 2007
My mom used to go down the caverns when she was young, with all the lads. I would love to go and see what she saw. I have been into Singers Cavern and that is spectacular. I would like to see the rest!

I am supporting Black Country as an Urban Park because it is not only for economic growth and tourism, it also offers enjoyable green space and more important is that it involves us--- people living in Smethwick. This is our project indeed!

As a graduate student geologist who has had the priviledge to travel over a lot of the world and see a lot of geology, it is even more pronounced to understand how special the geology in the Black Country is. In most of the major fossil collections throughout the world, you are most likey to see the trilobite Calymene blumenbachii which is a 423 Million year old local of the Wrens Nest (and is a symbol on Dudley Towns Crest!). Not only is the area important in terms of its special palaeontology but also as the catalyst for the development of what we know as the Black Country coal mining region, (more notably during industrialisation in the early 19th Century).....without the rocks, there would be no Black Country! I honestly think the Black Country Urban Park deserves your vote as it would be fantastic to see this area of World importance developed for visitors and for locals who will be able to understand and appreciate how important and special the area is in terms of it's geology (and it's archaeology too!). Good luck to the team, I will spread the word for you all the way from Canada!
nickie1983 - 9 November 2007
My children have visited the caves, collected the fossils and been on the canal barge and have talked about it ever since - you definitely have our vote

As chairman and on behalf of the Aston Villa Former Players Association, we pledge our support to the Black Country Urban Park bid. The project protects and enhances the rich heritage of the region, provides valuable educational opportunities, creates new 'green' environments that will improve the quality of life for millions of people and is the only project that will be delivered by the Community for the Community and for the visitors it will attract, which will also stimulate the region's economy. The perfect use of Lottery funding!
Neil - 9 November 2007
The architecture formed by the limestone mining is spectacular and should be seen by a wide audience.
sjlovell - 9 November 2007
I support Black Country Urban Park because this is what the black country needs this local beauty is just rotting away and going to waste but with a little care and attention we can turn it all around and make a beautiful place to visit and love!

I am supporting the Black Country project. It is exactly what this area needs

Chris Luty - 8 November 2007
As a Black Country resident I would like to pledge my support for the Black Country UP project.Following the decline in manufacturing in the area and the consequent loss of jobs it is about time the Black Country received some good news and investment. Now let's campaign for the Galton Valley canal system as a World Heritage Site and the Black Country's role as the crucible of the Industrial Revolution which directly led to today's prosperity would be properly recognised.
An anonymous supporter - 8 November 2007
what a wonderful project, we went to the caves of drach in majorca last month. magnificent, this project would bring many more local jobs to the black country making it a marvelous black country attraction...the black country deserves this and i believe it is our time....
vivianallman - 8 November 2007
I like the idea of this so much that I've created a Facebook Group to hopefully help drum up support - it's called *Vote for the Black Country Urban Park for The People's £50 Million Lottery*.
Matthew Johnson - 8 November 2007
I am supporting the Black Country project. It's a fantastic area and fully deserves more money for regeneration. The Black Country has given much to many areas of industry - it's time to have a little something back!
An anonymous supporter - 8 November 2007
It's our turn. Go Black Country!
The Yowser - 7 November 2007
The Black country is a very heavily built up area and would benefit most from improvement in parkland areas. It also has very little tourism and is as far from the coast as is possible in England.
lizzylee - 7 November 2007
The black countrys past is slowly becoming a little more forgotten about, this project would be good to educate not only the local area but also the nation. Black country hosts several forgotten beauties, which can be modernised and made popular again with these plans. Please do not let this area fade away
melv_ov_tipton - 7 November 2007
I think this is a fantastic opportunity for the Black Country to be proud of its heritage and history

Our canals are really magical spaces providing a green corridor through the Black Country and linking us up with the wider region - there must be a canal near most people -try a walk this weekend!
Maggie McAndrew - 7 November 2007
I have worked down there and the place really needs this project. The people are great and it would transform the region leaving a fantastic legacy for future generations.

The project will enhance the lives of people right across the black country in so many varied ways and is therefore worthy of wholehearted support.

What a great opportunity to bring entire communities together and make a real difference in peoples lives.

I relocated to the Black Country five months ago and have never ceased to be impressed at the importance people attach to their heritage and the community in which they live. This bid clearly focuses upon building on the latent strength of the communities of the Black Country, its unique geology and proud heritage. I wish them well.
An anonymous supporter - 5 November 2007
Of all the projects the Black Country UP bid from my own perspective seems to be the most deserving. Other projects have already received millions of pounds from either the lottery or other sources and I'm a firm believer that money should be spent where its most needed. Hence my vote goes to the Black Country!
An anonymous supporter - 5 November 2007
This is a brilliant opportunity for the people of the Black Country to reestablish a real sense of pride in our sub region. It will be a real catalyst for raising aspirations and achievement
roman - 5 November 2007
The caverns have really captured my imagination. I don't think we can ever experience what miners in the industrial revolution went through, but I think the restoration of Dudley's limestone mines and caverns will give it a really good try.
An anonymous supporter - 5 November 2007
The Black Country is a wonderful place: full of colourful people who are friendly and welcoming; with a wealth of heritage; and still there is potential to be discovered. Urban Park will enable the local citizens to be actively involved in the transformation of the Black Country, and benefit from the inevitable economic advances. I want to see the Black Country reclaim its rightful place at the forefront of innovation in industry - perhaps a new industry. But nevertheless, with our proven work ethic and past successes we are the right people in the right place to make UP a world-class success that the country will be proud of! Vote UP!!

I hope you join me in Standing Up for the Black Country bid.

A lot of West Midlanders don't realise what a treasure lies beneath our feet in the the form of the caverns underneath the Wrens Nest nature reserve. If we all get behind the plan to open them up we'll have a world class attraction to be proud of that breaths a new prosperity back into the heart of the Black Country. Spread the word and vote!
Paul Weston - 5 November 2007
The cradle of the industrial revolution and a major regional feature for geologists, naturalists and ornithologists. This will be a project which will enrich so many local peoples lives and show the world the industrial heartland of England isn't "black" as it's often painted.
jangeology - 5 November 2007
I've just found out that Black Country Urban Park includes a 12 mile bridleway up the Sandwell Valley! I can't wait to ride along it. Come on, horse riders. This one is worth your vote!

Each one of us now has a unique opportunity to support the improvements to our environment. Lets use it by making sure we all register our Vote and pledge our support. (Good Luck & Well done for getting this far)

This is an amazing project in an area that has really started to move forward. The one million people in the Black Country deserve this as the area is a treasure of historical and geological interest. Above all, the people of the Black Country are brilliant, warm and friendly having kept their spirits up through the previous industrial decline. The Black Country now seems to have people who are prepared to take the area forward to be one of the leaders in the country with a bold and exciting 30 year vision. The local people from the communities will ensure that this project is a sucess for the Black Country, the Midlands and the Nation. I should know I work in the Black Country every day and have done for the last 10 years, it's a good place but will vastly improve and become a great place with the help of this money.
ricky monsoon - 30 October 2007
This needs supporting. This project will bring real regeneration to the whole area, and improve the environment for the communities in the Black Country. Not another small project aimed at a few people, this is huge and could have so much impact. Get voting.
An anonymous supporter - 30 October 2007
I think this project is fantastic, it could really change the lives of people living in the Black Country for the better. It's down to us now as people of the Black Country to do something and show everyone how amazing it is where we live, lets be proud. We all need to vote and make sure the Black Country is the winner.
Katherine - 30 October 2007
This is a fantastic project and will transform the seven sisters mine in Dudley from a neglected underground space into a magical visitor attraction. Just imagine travelling underground by boat and then rise to the surface by an inclined lift, its going to be awesome. The project can be enjoyed by visitors from all over the UK and around the world. This project will also create jobs and investment and bring in thousands of visitors, which will help to regenerate the whole region. It certainly has my vote and I urge everyone to support this great opportunity.
PamelaH - 29 October 2007
This is such a wonderful project, It really is worth the money, I hope the people of the Black Country get behind the project and vote for something their area truely deserves! Science, history, innovation, invention, inspiration and hard work are some of the words that come to mind with the mere mention of The Black Country, lets work together to try and bring this home!
An anonymous supporter - 29 October 2007
A great opportunity to put a smile on the lanscape of the Black Country and get us all out of a hole of Doom and Gloom. I certainly support anything that will better the environment for not just us all now, but for the future generations.
sarahpaskin - 29 October 2007
This is such an exciting project that will change the landscape of the Black Country forever. I'm desperate to see the treasures underground in Dudley; I understand the limestone caverns are a really sleeping beauty just waiting to spring back in to life. It will make a massive difference to people's lives locally, regionally and nationally if the Black Country bid is successful. Go for it!
An anonymous supporter - 29 October 2007
This project will truly make a difference to people's lives - locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. When the caverns are opened up and the geologial history of the world is revealed everybody will have an opportunity to see the world as it once was.

It is great to see a project worthy of the region and its local people, giving the world an insight into what makes the Black Country a wonderful place. I would urge everyone to fully support this great opportunity to open up this area up for all enjoy.

This is fantastic news for the midlands and the whole country. A very deserving and much neglected area which was once at the heart of it all. Hopefully through the imagination and community involvement in this fab project it will show the way again. From mines, fossils, canals, nature reserves, walks and heritage this delivers so much it has to get my vote.
Dudley Bug - 29 October 2007
This will really benefit the Black Country and all one million people who live here. It is a real opportunity to make a difference to all those real people who play the Lottery every week. They can all be winners.
andy webb - 29 October 2007
everyone should vote for the blackcountry what a fantastic way to view the past
charlie - 29 October 2007
As a Civil Engineer I am particuarly interested in the Black Country Consortium project which appears to be a challenging engineering based project. The proposal appears to include stabilisation of old Limestone mines and an underground system to move people from the mine back to the surface. The Victorian Engineers were very innovative, it will be interesting to see what engineers of today can deliver. Go BCC.
engineer1 - 29 October 2007
I think it is great to see the Black Country shortlisted. This is an opportunity which will bring so much regeneration into an area which has suffered due to the decline in traditional industry. I would urge everyone to vote for this very well thought through project. Good luck to the project team.

What a wonderful way to finally highlight what the Black Country has to offer the rest of the Country and to improve the lives of the 1 million plus people living in it and the hundreds of millions more that pass through it each year. Canals, history, industry, cycle paths, geology and parks; this project offers something to everyone. It certainly has my support.
